Pet Odours Decontamination

Pet Odours Decontamination

We love our pets! But let’s face it, they do have odours and occasional accidents.

At Oliva Service carpet cleaning, rug hand-washing and upholstery cleaning, we offer a variety of odour control treatments. We can eliminate most pet odours, as well as: odours from infant and toddler accidents, “locker room” smells, rancid kitchen odours, musty mildew, and other unpleasant scents.

We use only the safest deodorizing agents available. Odour Control Concentrates may be used for treatment of problem areas. Our odour removal treatments can be applied in one of the following ways:

  • Cleaning Solution
  • Injection
  • Spray
  • Sub-Surface Extraction
  • Area Fogging

Urine Removal Solution

Accidents happen and even though you can’t always see them, you can certainly smell them! That’s why we use Black Light inspection to locate otherwise invisible pet stains. We pre-treat the stain before starting the cleaning process.

We then treat the surface with a powerful decontamination product which loosens pet urine salts, making them easier to remove. We immediately follow with our deep cleaning process to remove as much urine as possible from the carpet fibres.

In severe cases, the urine may have penetrated both the carpet backing and the padding beneath. If necessary, your Oliva Service technician will pull back the carpet and padding to make sure you don’t have buried urine spots. This will prevent future pet odours.

The final step is a clean rinse, an extraction of both sides of the carpet and an application of a powerful decontamination solution. This carpet solution destroys any remaining bacteria and pet odours within the carpet or upholstered fibres.

If you want do it by yourself,( not recommended, if you dont succeed, stains may become permanent)

It’s important to understand the proper removal of pet urine odors.   Understanding the nature of the source, in this case urine, is the key to how to best approach this problem.
Pet urine starts off as an acid but quickly changes PH to an alkaline state.   A common alkaline household product is ammonia and that is partially why urine sometime smells like ammonia.
A common household acid is vinegar and this can be used to quickly neutralize some of your pet accident problems.
Using clear vinegar mixed half and half with water in a spray bottle, lightly spray a small inconspicuous area of the carpet or rug being treated.  Using a white towel to check the area for dye transfer to prevent further damage.   If there is a transfer of dye, continue blotting until dry and consult a professional carpet cleaner.   Contact me through or call 905-827-4554   and I’ll be happy to answer questions.
If you have no visible dye transfer then proceed to spray the affected area until moist.   You can use a hair comb to lightly stand up the pile for better penetration.   Allow the solution to dwell for about 5 or 10 minutes and then blot with your white towel.   Rinse the area by spraying with plain water and blot until you are no longer absorbing liquid.   Repeat if necessary.

Remember that some urine may have penetrated into the padding and or sub-floor.   In these cases more extreme measures need be taken and you should consider calling oliva carpet care of Oakville, or one of our anothel locations in Milton, and Burlington, Ontario.
